Q: Is it ok if I marry and fall in love with someone outside my race?
A: Of course, it is halal. The Qur’an teaches us that emphasizing character and piety are most important. In the Qur’an it states, “Indeed, the noblest of you in the site of Allah (swt) is the most righteous of you” [Quran 49:13]. Your family may have an issue with it, but that may be more of a cultural issue. Islam teaches us to prioritize a spouse’s religious commitment (Taqwa) and piety over race, color, or nationality, which is why everyone also wears the same thing when completing Hajj. May Allah (swt) make it easy for you. Ameen.
