Duas Don’t Come True?!…..

One day, my brother and I were walking and buying groceries. My brother leaves his credit card in the back of his phone. I always remind him to put it back where he leaves it because he tends to lose everything. He still forgets most of the time (mostly out of laziness). He will usually use the card and just leave it in his pocket.

As we were walking, I asked him for a napkin, and he pulled out his card from his pocket as a joke. I told him to put it away before he lost it, and we continued walking. When we reached home, he was unloading his pockets, and to his surprise, the card was not there. He looked in all his pockets, and it was nowhere in sight. Then he asked me if I had it. I told him that I did not and that he had put it in his pocket. “Well, it is not there”, he exclaimed. I was angry because I constantly remind him to just take a second to put it back behind his phone, but he never listens.

I was tired, but we still decided to just retrace our steps in hopes of finding it. I was very pessimistic because anyone could have found it, and used it. We retraced our steps, but we had no luck. We were both tired and decided to just walk back home. My brother said he would just call the company and cancel it. That sounded like a hassle because that would mean that he would have to wait for the company to send a new one.

Just as we were about to reach home, I made a dua: إِنَّا لِلَّٰهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُون . (The dua reminds us we return to Allah on the day of judgment. And everything around us belongs to Him.) I knew we were about to reach our gate. I doubted the dua and felt like it would not work, but I said it anyway. Literally, not a minute passed, and as soon as my brother opened our gate, there was the card. It was on the floor, right next to the gate entrance. Subhan’Allah (Glory be to Allah SWT, the Greatest). I quickly said, “Astaghfirullah” (I seek forgiveness from Allah SWT) for doubting the power of dua.

The reason why I wanted to share this instance was because it taught me to never doubt the power of dua. Sometimes when we make dua, we doubt that it will come true. Sometimes, we do not make dua at all because we still doubt that it will come true. However, if you really reflect, Allah (SWT) always takes care of us and makes our duas come true. It may not be at our exact timing, but trust that Allah (SWT) ALWAYS answers our prayers. May we never doubt the power of dua, and may we always be among the steadfast. Ameen.
