Q: I have been married for six years; I have mashallah, two boys, and the love of my life.
I live in a separate home, with my wife living in a city and my mom living in a village.
During these six years, every time my mom visited my home, I saw there were some problems that my wife had, and when my mom left my house with tears in her eyes.
The last Eid-ul-adha, my mom got mini stoke and came to my home again. She stayed here for four days. My wife only asked one time how she felt about when my mom had just landed.
I would love to mention my home, where I live, with my mother-in-law, brother-in-law, and wife. My brother-in-law’s wife often asked how my mom felt and what they needed and showed empathy, which I quite liked.
My mother-in-law asked for forgiveness from my mom. She didn’t like my wife’s attitude. Every time she came to my house, she did the same things repeatedly.
What should I do to solve this issue?
A: Firstly, the best thing to do is make dua to Allah (swt) to mend the relationship between your wife and mother. Afterwards, I think you should sit down with your wife and have a conversation with her. Let her know that The Qur’an places a high status on the good treatment of parents.
In the Qur’an it says in 46:15, “We have enjoined on man’s kindness to his parents: In pain did his mother bear him, and in pain did she give him birth.”
Also in Surah Ahqaf 31:14, “And We have enjoined on man [to be good] to his parents: in travail upon travail did his mother bear him, and in years twain was his weaning: (hear the command), ‘Show gratitude to Me and to your parents: to Me is (your final) goal’.”
Let her know the importance of their relationship, so she is more attentive when interacting with your mother. I hope this helps, and may Allah (swt) make it easier on you and your family.
